CLIMATE ACTION NOW NEW MEXICO
LEGISLATOR PLEDGE
We are asking New Mexico State Legislators to commit to supporting a net zero framework bill this legislative session by signing the following pledge:
We are at a turning point in New Mexico. Our climate is warming and changing at a pace beyond many other states, bringing massive wildfires, post-fire flooding, aridification, drying reservoirs and rivers, and disruption of centuries of traditional land-use management. These changes impact not only our communities, but also our wildlife and the larger ecosystem we are all a part of.
New Mexico's diverse and culturally-rich communities have a long history of resilience and adapting in times of great challenge, embracing obstacles through innovation, creativity, and determination.
Standing together, we can take action to create a New Mexico with sustainable, good-paying jobs for New Mexicans that will support families and communities across the state; a diversified thriving economy that works for all New Mexicans and celebrates the uniqueness of our state and our communities; and resilient ecosystems and communities that are climate ready to counter and adapt to the challenges our future holds. All of these things will help create a future that our children can be proud of.
To get there, we need to take the next step. The legislature needs to take climate action now to commit the state to this vision by transitioning to an emissions-free economy by 2050.
The Pledge: I pledge to support New Mexico's renewable energy future with policy action in 2023 to build a statewide zero-emission economy by 2050.
